A Vocabulary for Snow

Here in this northern clime
we have our terminology:

flurries,
spitting,
snowed in,
squalls,
snowed over,
wet snow,
dusting,
puffy snow,
banks,
drifts—
and let’s not forget

blanket,
for under
the blanket of snow
my mind lies,
keeping me compact
and turned within,
with the hope of someday
wandering out
into spring’s tender rays.
